Ray Scott’s Poetry

In our summer edition of Open Minds Quarterly we published two poems by writer Ray Scott, “broken glass in wet sand”, and “Middle Mania Memories”. These two poems, in addition to 64 others written by Ray, have been published in an audio CD “Broken Glass in Wet Sand”. Some of Ray’s poetry are spoken by Ray himself, others, by people who dedicated their time to helping this project come to be. Ray feels that the CD belongs not only to himself, but equally to his readers, who add a dimension to the depth and significance of his words. Currently distributed to clinics, libraries and offices, it is proving to be a valuable resource for those that are auditory learners; Ray’s poetry is a further means to comfort and educate listeners. The intention of his writing and this CD are four-fold:

  1. Let victims know that they are not alone and that others share their pain
  2. Let victims know that other people have achieved happiness in their lives despite their illness
  3. Let the loved ones of victims know that there is real help for their loved ones
  4. To serve as a learning tool to professionals in medicine, counselling, nursing, human services and social work who are training to help those suffering with a mental illness

Regarding his recent publication in our magazine, Ray graciously shared with us the following comments:

I am honored to be published in such an excellent journal as Open Minds Quarterly. I was thoroughly impressed by the quality and first class excellent presentation.

Your work is fairly unique but is so broad in its service. For a small press your publication, is in quality, second to none.

With Ray’s permission to share his work further with our readers, here follows the audio of the two poems that were published in this summer issue, along with an additional two poems of Ray’s, “Awake”, and “Just a minute dear”:

Broken glass in wet sand

Middle Mania Memories

Awake

Just a minute dear

Ray is currently in the midst of preparing a second CD. He plans to have his CDs and his book “Stray Marks on the Water” available for purchase through Amazon Books in November 2014. For Ray, “distribution is the only criteria for success”. Congratulations to Ray on a wonderful piece of art.
