Open Minds Quarterly: Winter 2013

Volume XIV, Issue IV

The Winter 2013 issue includes a story that looks at how sometimes the animal world has wisdom to offer humans; a personal account of a young man on the brink of attending university and dreaming about his future successes and popularity, who has to cope with an unexpected turn in life when he begins to suffer from schizophrenia; one person’s perspective on how a meaningless job training program doesn’t help anyone but the people running it; a fictional story about Dexter the bear who must learn to manage his expectations while still focusing on his dreams; and a poem that explores the choices available to us, from succumbing to one’s illness and being comfortable in isolation to choosing life and fighting to be truly alive.
