Open Minds Quarterly: Spring 1999

Volume I, Issue I

The first issue of Open Minds Quarterly was published and distributed in the Spring of 1999. This issue covered a story that used metaphorical imagery and style to tell one man’s struggles with mental illness; a young woman’s personal account of depression and how she found the support that she needed to guide her in her recovery; a story that powerfully relays both a mother and a daughters points of view on living with schizophrenia; a moving essay about the stigma that surrounds manic depression; and a book review of Wally Lamb’s novel about one identical twin who lives with paranoid schizophrenia, “I Know This Much is True”.
