Winning Poems from the 14th Annual Contest (2016)

Northern Initiative for Social Action and Open Minds Quarterly are pleased to announce the winning poems of the 14th Annual BrainStorm Poetry Contest. the contest, which closed on March 10, 2016, brought in nearly 250 entries from across the globe. After the initial round of judging, close to 40 moved forward for our final day of judging, when three poets, all published writers, came together to score each poem, debate the merits of many and, in the end, select the winners for 2016. It was one of the toughest judging years yet, with many quality entries. The judges were impressed with the quality of work and the effort our entrants put into their craft.

Thank you, to each one of you, for bringing your work to our contest. Not only did you help us fundraise a few hundred dollars for Open Minds Quarterly, but you convinced us, yet again, that within our peer movement we have gifted, generous artists. We will be so proud to share the First-, Second- and Third-Place poems in the next issue of Open Minds, and the Honourable Mentions in our Fall 2016 edition. Once the Spring issue is published, we will send you a coupon code to redeem a free e-copy of the magazine through
